Trackbacks are nothing but informing other blogs that you liked one of their posts and made a similar post on your blog to move the discussion forward. This blog to blog notifying service is called trackback. You need not to write a email to that blog author or make a comment on that author’s blog to tell him. A simple trackback feature will take care of all that. This trackback feature comes in built with platforms like wordpress but with blog service providers like Blogger you have to do this manually.
How Trackback feature works :
Trackback feature is a two way communication between blogs. Blogs communicate with one another using this feature without it’s author’s practical involvement. Lets try to understand the concept behind trackback system.
Suppose you are having a blog abc.com
- While surfing on net, you find an interesting post on a blog 123.com
- You liked the post and want to publish an article on that very topic with some added informations on your blog abc.com
- Now you make a post on your blog i.e. abc.com and send a trackback to 123.com.
- When you publish your post, your blog will automatically contact the other blog and will leave a trackback.
- This will tell the 123.com that abc.com has a post on that same topic. It will also affect your SEO factor.
There are ceratin points to follow in order to use this trackback feature successfully. And they are:
- Both blogs should be having trackback feature enabled
- In order to use the trackback feature, you have to get the original post’s designated trackback URL. Remember it’s not that post’s URL. Trackback URL is different
- Mention that trackback URL in your post’s trackback field, so that they will get informed.
Wordpress users can get benefits of this service by default. But if you are having any problems with this feature, you can use few wordpress trackback plugins also. Few of them are, Simple Trackback Validation, Wordpress Trackback For Pages Plugin or DoFollow Trackbacks Plugin.
How to send trackbacks from a Blogger / Blogspot blog :
Blogger does not have any trackback service by default. They are not giving this facility as many spammers have already abused this service. So, you need to use a third party tool called Haloscan to do it.
Haloscan uses it’s own server and can be used on several blogs at a time. Once you use haloscan, it will take care of your trackbacks and will notify the blogs you want to send the trackback. This is a free service but worth trying. Give this a try.
