ESET Software, a leading provider of Internet software security solutions, announced today that NOD32, its next generation antivirus software program, has once again been awarded a coveted Virus Bulletin 100% award, setting a world’s record in antivirus testing.
The Virus Bulletin is the world’s leading computer virus research and testing organization. Virus Bulletin produces a bimonthly testing program that is considered the definitive measure of an antivirus software programs’ ability to detect viruses and protect networks and personal computing resources.
NOD32, which has been on the US market since 1997, detected 100% of all “In the Wild” virus samples produced for the testing. “In the Wild” samples are the most dangerous active computer infiltrations. NOD32 has been awarded more Virus Bulletin 100% awards and has the most consecutive 100% Awards than any other product on the market.
Competing against national and international name brands, including McAfee (Virus Scan) and Symantec (Norton), analysts noted not only NOD32’s detection performance, but also its overwhelming speed of execution. Based on the results published in Virus Bulletin for September 2001, NOD32 had an executable file throughput rate in excess of 5 million KB/s. The next best measured at 2 million KB/s, and most of the other 11 competing programs staggered along at less than 800,000 KB/s. Executable files are the most crucial because those are the files that viruses use to breed and spread.
“This latest Virus Bulletin test confirms NOD32’s place at the top of the 100% Award winners,” said ESET VP Anton Zajac. “Recent virus outbreaks such as SirCam32, and the CodeRed II worm, have revitalized business and public interest in antivirus protection, NOD32’s heuristic capability enables stopping more than 95 percent of the unknown (not analyzed) viruses.
By virtue of this advanced technology,” Zajac continued, “NOD32 not only provides state-of-the-art protection against the known infiltrations, but also against the most dangerous ones - those yet to be discovered. This ability sets it far apart from the old-style programs.”
Heuristic technology detects virus-like activity and initiates action to isolate and clean infected files. This allows users to continue work instead of waiting days for a patch to be developed and downloaded. Additionally, NOD32 is automatically updated and upgraded on your PC.
In confirming NOD32’s accomplishments, Virus Bulletin says, “As the virus threat is continually changing, you should look for products that have garnered a string of VB 100% awards, rather than just managed to capture one or two.”
