Grisly Photos of Nikki Catsouras’ Death Went Viral on the Web

Nikki Catsouras was killed in a horrible car crash on Halloween day of 2006. The 18-year-old Orange County, California, resident had been driving her father’s black Porsche 911 Carrera at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour when she lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a concrete tollbooth. She was killed instantly, and, much to her family’s horror, nine grisly Nikki Catsouras car crash photos found their way onto the Internet and went viral.

A few days after the accident, Nikki’s father, Christos, who is a real estate agent, opened an e-mail that he thought to be a property listing. But that was far form the case. Instead, what he saw his daughter Nikki’s blood-covered face accompanied by the following caption: “Whoohoo Daddy! Hey Daddy, I’m still alive.”

Since that horrifying experience, the Catsourases have spent thousands of dollar in legal fees in an attempt to stop people from posting the Nikki Catsouras car crash photos online. Indeed, the Nikki Catsouris car crash photo controversy has morphed into a case about cyber-privacy and harassment.

Three tips for 鈥渃ompany blogging鈥

Posted by admin On May - 2 - 2009873 COMMENTS

This is my personal blog. I don鈥檛 run my draft posts by Google鈥檚 PR or legal team, other than maybe 2-3 times when I thought a post might have legal implications. But I have learned a few hard-won lessons. So, when someone recently asked me for tips about talking to the public, I couldn鈥檛 resist. Whether you blog for the company officially or unofficially, here are my top three rules of thumb:

  1. Don鈥檛 make hard promises about the future. One of the beauties of web-based software and services is you get to decide when to push out changes. Don鈥檛 give up that freedom by promising a feature to the outside world by a certain deadline. Maybe later you鈥檒l decide that a different feature is a bigger win. Or you may want to hold off for a week to polish down the last rough edges on a product.
  2. Don鈥檛 trash talk a competitor. Your product should be strong enough that you don鈥檛 have to diss a competing company. Back in 2002, an article in the Boston Herald showed up about another search engine. The article claimed that 鈥淭he entire XXXXXXXXX Catalog is updated every 9 to 11 days.鈥 I knew for a fact that wasn鈥檛 true and at first I wanted to rip that claim to shreds like a bulldog. But (with the advice of some wiser Googlers), I decided to take the high road instead of picking a fight. In fact, claims like that motivated Google to be fresher and faster. Now I believe Google has the freshest index of any of the major web search engines.Sometimes other companies will throw dirt in your direction. In that case, the challenge is to correct any misperceptions without picking a fight. But first ask yourself: do you really need to respond at all? If not, then maybe it鈥檚 better not to get pulled into an argument where everyone involved loses a little credibility. So far I鈥檝e written 10-15 draft posts (and who knows how many I鈥檝e written in my head) where I was snarky about another search engine, and then not published the post. Each time when I look back after a few months, I鈥檓 glad that I didn鈥檛 post.
  3. Don鈥檛 post when you鈥檙e angry. This is probably the most important tip. If you have to write something, go ahead, but don鈥檛 press publish until you鈥檝e slept on the situation or had a chance to calm down completely.

I鈥檝e broken each of these rules, and regretted it almost every time. What tips would you suggest when blogging about your company?

How often have you faced problem while typing. Not all the people have significantly good typing speed and it鈥檚 common among the youngsters that they use the sms service a lot for communicating with their friends. This is a cheaper means of communication but at the same time it also wastes time. How about having an application that can increase your typing speed so that you can enjoy the cheaper means of communication without having to waste your time.

With QuickWrite installed in your mobile phone you can reduce the typing time several times and increase the writing accuracy considerably. What this application does is quite simple, it only predicts the word you are going to type, this means that as soon as you stat typing the complete word will be suggested and you can select the word from the list rather than typing the whole word. This can save considerable amount of time.

The scope of the application is not only limited to typing messages but it will work in almost all the application in your mobile phone. May it be using dictionary or may it be using some notepad or even when looking for contacts from the list. This feature especially comes in handy when you are using your mobile phone browser to access the internet.

Features:

鈥⒙犅犅 It functions very quickly and at the same time it does not consume much of the phone memory.
鈥⒙犅犅 There is an inbuilt support for many languages which you can set under the options menu.
鈥⒙犅犅 The smart engine suggests you with the words that you use most often.

Requirements:
鈥⒙犅犅 OS: Symbian
